Legal Department
advice, expertise and assistance in the various legal fields
in connection with the Bank’s participation in the ESCB, take an active part in the legal work at the level of the European Central Bank and other international bodies, including the Bank for International Settlements (BIS)
contact with the legal departments of the European Central Bank, foreign central banks and international institutions
in connection with the Bank’s duties as an adviser to the Belgian government, participate in the preparation of legal texts and regulations at national and European level in the spheres for which the Bank is responsible.
International and Eurosystem Coordination
assist the Governor and Vice-Governor in preparations for the international meetings which they attend and the associated coordination with the various Bank departments involved
contribute towards defining the Bank’s strategy within the Eurosystem and monitor the consistency of the standpoints adopted by the Bank’s representatives in the various ESCB working groups
contribute towards defining Belgium’s standpoint in the IMF, the OECD, the European Union and the BIS, if appropriate in consultation with FPS Finance. Analyse the issues discussed by those institutions
the Bank’s principal point of reference and contact for all institutional questions concerning the operation of the monetary union and international institutions
take an active part in the legal work at the level of the European Central Bank and other international bodies, in close consultation with the Legal Department
maintain a network of informal contacts with fellow coordinators at other central banks.
