Cedric Duprez - Economist
In practice, we provide decision-makers with a clear and scientifically underpinned message.
When I was offered the chance to work at the National Bank, I did not hesitate and, very soon, my first positive impressions were confirmed. In the Economics and Research Department, we are directly involved in economic policy back-up work. I was thus able to take part in a group which is closely following the Belgian economy, with my own work concentrated on Belgium's economic relations with the rest of the world. I am currently involved in another group which is analysing the Belgian economy's competitiveness in a broad sense. In practice, we provide decision-makers with a clear and scientifically underpinned message, by means of memos, presentations or complete dossiers. In order to do so, we often cooperate as a team with colleagues/experts in other fields. Access to statistical data, particularly those published by the Bank, is an additional asset for the quality of the analyses. Participating in international meetings and working groups, at the ECB in particular, also constitutes an incentive. The numerous contacts with other institutions such as the European Commission, the IMF or the OECD, or with other Belgian institutions, are very enriching, too.
