Cédric Luppens - Economist-statistician

As a leading player in the field of economic and financial statistics, the National Bank of Belgium is for me an ideal employer.

When I was studying Economic Sciences, I could only dream about a job where I could put into practice the theoretical skills acquired during my university training, and notably in the area of statistics. As a leading player in the field of economic and financial statistics, the National Bank of Belgium is therefore an ideal employer.

Following the migration to the new system of national accounts, EU Member States’ macroeconomic statistics are now undergoing major revisions in order to adapt the national accounts to developments in the economy. It was in this context that the chance to work for two years on a European project for the valuation of investment in Research & Development in Belgium within the national accounts service of the General Statistics Department came up, an opportunity that I of course seized.  This first experience at the Bank has enabled me to discover a working environment that is both serious and pleasant at the same time, to broaden my knowledge and benefit from the experience of highly-qualified people, all of which made me more keen to work here on a permanent basis.

This is now a fait accompli because, for the last few months, I have been part of the national accounts group on Expenditure where I am responsible for estimation of value added in the construction and accommodation and real estate services sectors, investment, housing and land capital stock, as well as for the research and development account.

As an employer, the National Bank of Belgium not only offers a good pay package, but also a wide range of training courses and real career opportunities. Moreover, in the current economic context, the de facto job security provided by the Bank is another significant advantage!
