Domien Gelade - Auditor

I think the most important aspect is the pursuit of added value for the NBB. Thus the internal auditor creates change, which does not always prove to be that easy. It requires a sense of synthesis and persuasion.

After having gained a first work experience with an international audit bureau, I was ready to face a new challenge. At that moment there were two interesting vacancies at the NBB: one in the area of internal audit and the other in banking supervision. I eventually turned to the internal audit on account of the broader perspective and the European dimension within the European System of Central Banks.

The first weeks were truly exciting. I had but a limited knowledge of the NBB and I had to master a whole new area within the central bank. The internal audit assesses the smooth operation, the effectiveness and the efficiency of various processes: internal control, risk management and governance. It issues opinions to that end. Surely a varied and demanding task! Thanks to the internal training provided by the NBB and a thorough external training on internal audit I soon managed to acquire the necessary knowledge and experience.

I think the most important aspect is the pursuit of added value for the NBB. Thus the internal auditor creates change, which does not always prove to be that easy. It requires a sense of synthesis and persuasion.

And the qualities I am looking for in an employer are most certainly provided by the NBB: an absorbing job content, a challenging range of duties and an appropriate work-life balance.
