I am the perfect example of the fact that the Bank offers plenty of opportunities to young people. When I started working at Research on 1 September 2013, I had only just obtained my degree in Economic Sciences and, as a 22-year-old, I also turned out to be the youngest of the department. Nevertheless, I was immediately involved in the action and I even had my own contribution to the 2013 Annual Report. In this respect, my group of "National Accounts and Short-Term Statistics" is responsible for following the Belgian economy. In order to do so, we base ourselves largely on forecasts produced within our own group (to which the other department groups contribute, of course), in a coordinated six-monthly forecast exercise, in consultation with the ECB and other the euro area national central banks.
Neither is there any lack of training opportunities within the Bank. For instance, we can choose from a wide range of language and computer courses. In the first two years, there is a monthly training module for newcomers to get acquainted with the different services and departments of the Bank. Thus, we recently paid a visit to the printing works. At last, the Bank regularly sends us out to training sessions abroad: last year I attended a summer course at the Cass Business School in London and this year I am heading for Lecce in Italy!
