The Front Office, part of the Financial Markets Department of the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) has two core central bank responsibilities: it implements Eurosystem monetary policy, including the asset purchase programmes, and it executes the NBB's portfolio management activities.


  • monitoring of and reporting on developments in financial markets
  • maintaining contacts with market counterparties and facilitating proper institutional use of financial market intelligence
  • contributing to the Eurosystem implementation of standard monetary policy, e.g. including open market operations, minimum reserve requirements and liquidity management
  • transacting in specific financial market segments, e.g. foreign exchange
  • providing support in Eurosystem activities and working groups.


  • hold a Bachelor’s degree, ideally with some financial orientation
  • have a passion for institutional financial markets and be attracted by their operational aspects
  • have a high sense of ethics, integrity and sound professional conduct
  • have a good command of English and general IT tools
  • have good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • be able to work independently, while respecting all aspects of teamwork in the trading room
  • be stress resistant; be able to cope with multiple input factors and deadlines.

Working conditions


  • 30 September 2018: closing date for applications
  • October 2018: online tests (abstract, numerical and verbal reasoning) (± 80 min.)
  • October-November 2018: interview (± 45 min.)
  • November 2018: assessment (whole day).
